Leaders Al Ain had to rely on an own goal from Mohamed Ismail Sayed for a hard-fought 2-1 win against visiting Ajman in early 12th round action of an ill-tempered 12th round of the ADNOC Pro League, on Thursday.
The visitors were quick off the mark with Miral Samardzic finding the back on the net in the very fifth minute.
Stung by the early goal, it was once again Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba who played a quick one-two with Argentinean Cristian Guanca for the equalizer in the 36th minute.
With honours even at 1-1, Al Ain went all out for a winner and got it in the 86th minute when Sayed mistakenly guided the ball into his own goal and hand the table leaders full points.
The win further bolstered Al Ain’s place at the top with 30 points, while a heart-broken Ajman remained in eighth spot with 15 points.
