Shabab Al Ahli opened up a one-point lead at the top of the ADNOC Pro League's table after beating Ajman 3-1 in matchweek 13 at Rashid bin Saeed Stadium on Monday.
Despite playing with ten players from the first minute, Ajman Ajman had taken the lead in the 38th minute when M. Ben Alarbi picked up the ball and brilliantly cut inside the penalty area after beating two defenders to unleash a left-footed effort, which nestled into the left-top corner of the net.
The Dubai-based side refused to give up as they kept searching for the equalizer and they got what they wanted in the 58th minute when they have been awarded a penalty kick due to a handball on Novak Vukovic inside the penalty box, prompting the referee to point to the spot. Federico Nicolas Cartabia stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.
Just three minutes after the hour-mark, Ajman’s defender Abdulrahman Rakan’s own goal gave the lead for Shabab Al Ahli when he converted a cross into his own net.
