Al Wahda claimed a 1-0 win against Ajman in their ADNOC Pro League season opener, thanks to a late own goal that secured them three points at Al Nahyan Stadium.
The match kicked off with Ajman immediately on the offensive, creating two early chances. In the 2nd minute, Ayman Alhassouni unleashed a shot from inside the penalty area, only for Al Wahda’s Lucas Pimenta to block it. Shortly after, in the 11th minute, Junior Flemmings’s header was expertly saved by Al Wahda’s goalkeeper.
The first half ended in a stalemate, despite Flemmings missing a clear chance for Ajman just before the whistle.
The second half saw both teams striving to take control. In the 58th minute, Junior Flemmings nearly gave Ajman the lead with a powerful shot that rattled the post. Al Wahda responded through Omar Khribin, whose fierce strike was parried away by Ajman’s goalkeeper.
In the 86th minute, the deadlock was finally broken, but it wasn’t a deliberate strike—Ajman’s Milos Kosanovic inadvertently redirected a cross into his own net, handing Al Wahda the lead.
Notably, this was the second time Al Wahda has benefited from an own goal in a Pro League opener, the first being in the 2018-2019 season against Kalba. This also marked the 15th own goal in Al Wahda's favor in the history of the Pro League.
Ajman made a desperate push for an equalizer in the final moments. However, their hopes were dashed when Walid Azaro missed a crucial penalty in stoppage time, sealing Al Wahda’s 1-0 win.
