Title holders Al Ain and Bani Yas played out a 2-2 draw at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek eleven of the ADNOC Pro League on Tuesday.
Andrii Yarmolenko opened the scoring for the hosts in the 28th minute after he capped off a thrilling counter-attack started by Laba Kodjo. The breakaway ends with Soufian Rahimi squaring the ball to Yarmolenko to fire a low shot home.
Three minutes later, Nicolas Gimenez leveled the scoring for Bani Yas when Al Ain's defense failed to properly clear the ball, and it fell to the Argentinian midfielder who fired a powerful strike into the top corner of the net, to make it 1-1.
Al Mahdi Al Mubarak's own goal gave the visitors the lead when he converted a cross into his own net in the 36th minute.
During the second half, the hosts kept up the pressure, and they were awarded a penalty after Bandar Al Ahbabi was pulled down inside the box by Bani Yas's midfielder Opa Nguette, prompting the referee to point to the spot. Al Ain forward Laba Kodjo stepped up to take the resulting penalty, powering into the bottom corner of the net.
The result means that Al Ain are now seventh with 17 points, while Bani Yas remain in eleventh place with 11 points.
