Goals from Ali Mabkhout and Ahmed Mohamed Alhashmi helped Al Jazira secure a 2-0 win over Ittihad Kalba at Mohammad bin Zayed Stadium in the final Matchweek of the ADNOC Pro League on Thursday.
The game was cagey in the first half as both teams failed to pose a real threat to the goalkeepers ending the first half in a goalless draw.
The hosts finally found the back of the net in the 65th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick after Ittihad Kalba's defender Mohamed Abdelrahman Al Maazmi brought down Khalfan Mubarak inside the box, prompting the referee to point to the spot. The ADNOC Pro League all-time top scorer Ali Mabkhout stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, to make it 1-0.
Ahmed Mohamed Alhashmi sealed the victory for the hosts in the dying embers when he met Ali Mabkhout's low cross with a clinical finish from close range.
The win finishes Al Jazira in fifth place with a point tally of 45, while Khorfakkan remain ninth with 25 points.
