Al Nasr narrow gap at top with 1-0 win over Bani Yas

Diaa Saba netted the winner as Al Nasr edged Bani Yas 1-0 at Al Maktoum Stadium in matchweek 7 of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday.

The first dangerous chance fell to Al Nasr in the opening five minutes of the game. An impressive teamwork effort saw the ball find Diaa Saba, whose effort was blocked by Bani Yas keeper Fahad Al Dhanhani.

On the other side of the field, Bani Yas relied on an individual effort to threaten Al Nasr on goal, as Suhail Al Noobi fired a powerful strike but Al Nasr keeper Ibrahim Essa made a brilliant fingertip save to keep the game tied at 0-0.

Al Nasr didn’t break the deadlock until the 57th minute when Diaa Saba fired a powerful freekick into the far corner of Al Dhanhani’s net to hand his side a 1-0 lead.

The Blues had a promising chance 15 minutes from time as they were searching for a second goal to seal the victory. Brandley Kuwas failed to connect to Sebastián Tagliabué’s sublime backheel pass inside the box as it was intercepted by Al Dhanhani.

Al Dhanhani continued to impress as he diverted Tozé’s attempt on goal into a corner to deny Al Nasr from doubling their lead in injury time. However, the keeper’s heroics weren’t enough as the game ended with a 1-0 win in favour of the hosts.

Al Nasr narrowed the gap on leaders Sharjah to three points only as they now sit second on 16 points. Meanwhile, Bani Yas struggles continue as they remain on eight points in 10th place.
