Arabian Gulf League U21 matchweek 8: Al Ain, Kalba battle for top spot

Matchweek 8 of the Arabian Gulf League U21 saw the first and second spot remain unchanged, as Al Ain and Ittihad Kalba earned wins.

 

Al Ain defeated Bani Yas 4-2 at home, while Kalba earned 3-0 win over Al Nasr. The Boss remained first on 20 points, one above second-placed Kalba. Meanwhile, Shabab Al Ahli defeated Sharjah 1-0 to move to third place on 16 points, three above Sharjah in fourth place.

 

The defeat left Bani Yas in ninth place tied on points with Fujairah and Al Jazira, who sit seventh and eighth, respectively, after facing off at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium and playing out a 0-0 draw.

 

Meanwhile, Al Nasr now sit eighth and are tied on eight points with Hatta and Ajman, who sit 10th and 11th, respectively. Hatta fell to the heaviest defeat of matchweek 8 as they lost 5-1 to Khorfakkan, while Ajman played out a 2-2 draw with Al Wasl.

 

Despite the big win, Khorfakkan sit 13th on seven points only. On the other hand, Al Wasl are sixth with 11 points.

 

Al Dhafra fell to their seventh defeat, losing 4-1 to Al Wahda at home to linger at the bottom with one point. The win put the Clarets in fifth place on 12 points.

 

The Arabian Gulf League U21 action will come to a halt, as the UAE President's Cup round of 16 will be held this week, before resuming again on December 12.
