AFC praises first competition of the season

The AFC praised the Arabian Gulf Super Cup, which marks the first competition to be organized in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic affecting most countries. According to AFC General Secretary Dato' Windsor John, the AFC indicated that the successful organization of the Super Cup, the adherence to precautionary measures, and the successful conclusion of the first half of the Arabian Gulf League season without any health or organizational issues, reflect the presence of strict measures from the UAE Pro League and the clubs in order to overcome all the difficulties associated with playing during these exceptional circumstances.

He said, "the Super Cup was a truly unique and exceptional event, and a special celebration between Sharjah and Shabab Al Ahli, and the organization was remarkable, as is the case with events organized in the UAE.”

He added, "the UAE Pro League chaired by Abdulla Naser Al-Jneibi, member of the AFC Competitions Committee, is doing great work and the AFC has always praised the Emirati professionalism and their adherence to all standards and regulations, especially those related to club licensing, which is one of the strongest licensing systems in the continent and what really distinguishes it."

Dato' spoke about the organizational success of the Super Cup, and said, "Asian football has been through really difficult circumstances, and there are leagues that have not been completed and others that are still struggling. So, having leagues that concluded their first half of the season and organized a valuable competition as the Super Cup, as is the case with Emirati football, is a positive indication that there is keenness on recovering from the pandemic effects, which gives a positive feeling of overcoming all circumstances and returning to normal life.”

He added, "we are pleased with the successful organization of the Arabian Gulf Super Cup and the league matches in the UAE and the rest of the region. This motivates the AFC to continue working in high spirits, especially as we approach the 2021 AFC Champions League, which we hope that all clubs and leagues will be well-prepared to compete for its title.”

Dato' congratulated the UAE Pro League and AFC Competitions Committee member Abdulla Naser Al-Jneibi for the successful organization of the event and the impressive technical and organizational performance in the competition. He also hoped for the successful completion of the rest of the football season in the UAE and neighboring leagues in the region, while maintaining the same level of success achieved so far. He also wished that all athletes, players, administrators and technicians would continue to adhere to the precautionary measures and to stay in good health.
