Al Wasl, Sharjah share spoils in six-goal thriller

Sharjah came back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with Al Wasl at Zabeel Stadium in matchweek 22 of the Arabian Gulf League on Saturday.

Joao Figueiredo handed Al Wasl the lead with a stunning overhead kick on the 15-minute mark, which saw him end his 547-minute goal drought. The Brazilian forward was on target again towards the end of the first half, as he sent home an inch-perfect header in the 41st minute.

Sharjah kicked off the second half in a strong manner, as Welliton Soares reduced the deficit just four minutes after the restart. However, their comeback was short-lived as Ali Salmin regained Al Wasl’s lead only one minute later.

The King pulled off a late comeback, as Saif Rashid reduced the deficit one again in the 76th minute before Salem Saleh headed the equalizer in the second minute of injury time.

Al Wasl extended their undefeated run to 12 games, as they raised their tally to 34 points in seventh place. Meanwhile, Sharjah are currently on 41 points and sit third, just one point above fourth-placed Shabab Al Ahli.
