Sardar Azmoun marked his debut for Shabab Al Ahli in style, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Ajman in the first leg of Gameweek 1 of the 2024-2025 ADIB Cup. The match, held at Rashid Stadium on Sunday, saw the Iranian striker quickly establish himself as a key player for the Dubai-based club.
Shabab Al Ahli controlled the game from the outset, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The first real chance came in the 27th minute when Brazilian midfielder Breno fired a powerful shot that just missed the post. Another clear opportunity was missed in the 37th minute when Yuri Cesar, after receiving a perfect cross from the left wing, sent his shot over the crossbar.
Ajman showed some resistance in the second half, briefly threatening Shabab Al Ahli’s defense. However, it was Azmoun who broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, scoring his first goal with a clinical finish. Just five minutes later, he doubled the lead, capitalizing on a one-on-one situation with Ajman’s goalkeeper, Ali Al Hosani.
Shabab Al Ahli’s 2-0 victory gives them a significant advantage going into the second leg, scheduled for September 8 at Rashid Bin Saeed Stadium, where they will look to advance to the next round.
