A late goal from Peniel Mlapa handed Ittihad Kalba a 1-0 win over Ajman at Rashid bin Saeed Stadium in matchweek 2 of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday.
Both sides failed to create real goalscoring chances in the first half, with most of play being restricted to the midfield area.
The most dangerous chance of the first half came in the 41st minute, when a long ball fell to Ahmed Jshak, but his effort was saved by keeper Ali Al Hosani.
On the other side of the field, Ajman's Gustavo Vagenin tried his luck with a strong effort, but Kalba's keeper Jamal Abdulla denied it.
As the game seemed to be headed to a draw, Peniel Mlapa netted the winner for Kalba in the 89th minute. The Togolese forward received the ball on the edge of the box, dribbled past the defender before firing home.
This marked Ajman's second defeat in a row and Kalba's first league win. Ajman will next host Hatta, while Kalba will play against Al Jazira away from home.
