U21 league eighth week to see fierce rivalry for top spot

The UAE U-21 Pro League competition will continue with the eighth round with some engrossing games lined up on Friday and Saturday (October 29-30).

All three matches on the first day will have a kick-off at 4.55 pm with ninth-placed Ittihad Kalba taking on fifth-placed Al Nasr, 13th-placed Al Orooba looking out for a second win as they travel to fourth-placed Sharjah, while tenth-placed Bani Yas will host seventh-placed Al Jazira.

Al Wahda are at the top of the standings with 19 points, followed by Shabab Al Ahli in second with 17 points, while Al Ain (14) and Sharjah (12) occupy the third and fourth places.

Ittihad Kalba will be looking at continuing their scoring touch after swamping Al Orooba 5-2 in their previous encounter, while Al Nasr – held to a goalless draw at home by Sharjah – will be keen they get among the points and continue their move upwards in the standings.

In the day’s third match, Al Jazira will be seeking to make amends for their 2-2 draw at home against Shabab Al Ahli as they make the short trip across the city to Bani Yas.

The eighth round will be completed on Saturday evening with all four matches kicking off at 4.55 pm.

Tied with five points each in the lower half of the standings, Al Wasl will host Emirates Club at the Zabeel Stadium, while second-placed Shabab Al Ahli will travel to play against third-placed Al Ain at the Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium.

A win for either of these two teams will see them catching up with leaders Al Wahda, who will be hosting sixth-placed neighbours Al Dhafra.

Though at the bottom of the pile, Khor Fakkan earned their first win last week with a 4-2 result against visiting Bani Yas, and they will be surely out to strike the same form when they take on Ajman.
