ADIB Cup Marks the Start of the 2024-2025 UAE Football Season

The ADIB Cup is set to inaugurate the 2024-2025 UAE Pro League football season, with Gameweek 1 kicking off this weekend on August 17 and 18.

The first leg of the competition’s opening round will feature six matches, setting the stage for another exciting football season in the UAE.

On Saturday, Al Orooba will clash with Al Nasr, Bani Yas will face Dibba Al Hisn, and Khorfakkan will take on Sharjah.

Sunday’s fixtures promise equally intense action, with Kalba up against Al Ain, Al Jazira battling Al Bataeh, and Shabab Al Ahli meeting Ajman.

In this Gameweek 1 of the ADIB Cup, 12 teams will compete in a two-legged knockout format.

The winners will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will be joined by Al Wasl, the reigning ADNOC Pro League champions, and Al Wahda, the defending ADIB Cup champions, both of whom have secured direct entry to this stage.

This season marks the 17th edition of the ADIB Cup since it was first held in the 2008-2009 season.

The competition is one of three major tournaments under the UAE Pro League’s banner for the 2024-2025 season, alongside the ADNOC Pro League, U21 Pro League and the UAE Super Cup.

The tournament has carried the ADIB Cup name for three consecutive seasons, following the strategic partnership between ADIB and the UAE Pro League, which was established in July 2022.

This collaboration reflects the ongoing commitment to supporting football in the UAE and nurturing local talent.

Over the past 16 seasons, the ADIB Cup has seen a total of 706 matches, with 525 victories, 181 draws, and more than 2,000 goals scored, reaching a total of 2,114 goals by the end of last season.

Shabab Al Ahli leads the list of ADIB Cup champions with five titles, followed by Al Wahda with three, including their victory in the 2023-2024 season.

Other clubs that have claimed the title include Al Ain, Al Nasr, Al Jazira, Ajman, and Sharjah.
