Al Jazira defeated Al Wahda 1-0 at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium on Sunday in Gameweek 1 of the 2026-27 ADIB Cup.
Talisca scored the only goal of the match in the 60th minute, heading home to give Al Jazira all three points in the Abu Dhabi derby.
Al Jazira had already threatened in the first half, with Talisca finding the net in the 36th minute, but the goal was ruled out for a foul involving teammate Vinicius Mello.
The hosts continued to push after the break and finally broke the deadlock through Talisca on the hour mark.
Al Wahda goalkeeper Zayed Ahmed kept his side in the game with an important save in the 77th minute, denying Al Jazira a second goal.
Vinicius Mello thought he had doubled the lead in the 87th minute, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review.
Al Jazira held on through the closing stages to secure a narrow derby victory and make a winning start to their ADIB Cup campaign.
