Al Wahda settled a six-goal thriller at Emirates Club Stadium, sealing a 4-2 win over Emirates in matchweek 20 of the ADNOC Pro League on Monday.
It didn’t take long for the visitors to find the breakthrough as Syrian forward Omar Khribin fired Al Wahda into the lead inside the opening 15 minutes.
Khribin received the ball outside the box and curled a left-footed effort into the bottom left corner of the net to break the deadlock.
Ten minutes later, the visitors boosted their lead after great teamwork between trio Adrien Silva, Khribin, and Fabio Martins ended with the latter drilling a swerving strike into the right corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Four minutes before the two teams headed to dressing rooms for the break, Saeed Al Kaabi reduced the margin after a fine counter-attack display from Goseph Gnado saw Al Kaabi tap into the empty net.
Five minutes after the restart, Al Wahda were awarded a penalty kick after Joao Pedro was pulled down in the box. The Brazilian forward himself stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to add the third goal for his team.
At the hour mark, Khribin sealed the victory and grabbed his brace when he met Abdulla Al Karbi's pass with a powerful header that nestled into the far corner of the net.
The hosts reduced the deficit once again when Edarlyn Reyes guided a superb pass towards Gnado's lung-bursting surge down the right and the Ivorian forward whipped over a precise cross that Waleed Sabbar met with a clinical finish from six yards, but that was not enough as Al Wahda managed to hold on for a 4-2 victory.
Al Wahda are now second with 42 points, while Emirates remain bottom with just nine points.
