Arabian Gulf League matchweek 3 roundup

Matchweek 3 of the Arabian Gulf League saw Bani Yas and Sharjah maintain their perfect start to the season as they earned their third win in a row, raising their tally to nine points.

 

The Sky Blues earned a big 5-0 win over Khorfakkan, who were playing with 10 men since the fifth minute, to top the table on nine points. They are followed by Sharjah who defeated Al Ain 2-1 to sit second on goal difference.

 

Al Dhafra and Al Nasr are tied on seven points in third and fourth places, respectively. Al Dhafra earned a 3-1 win over Fujairah, while Al Nasr moved past Al Wasl with a 3-0 victory.

 

Shabab Al Ahli and Al Jazira both have five points and remain unbeaten. Shabab Al Ahli played out a 1-1 draw with Al Wahda to sit fifth. Meanwhile, Al Jazira defeated Ittihad Kalba 2-0 to earn their first win of the season and move to sixth place.

 

Al Wahda and Al Ain are tied on four points after earning a win and a draw each. The Clarets are seventh and the Boss are eighth on goal difference.

 

After succumbing to their second defeat of the season, Al Wasl and Kalba remained on three points, occupying the ninth and 10th positions.

 

Ajman and Hatta finally collected their first point of the season after playing out a goalless draw. They sit 11th and 12th, respectively.

 

Meanwhile, Fujairah and Khorfakkan remain the only two teams with no points after falling to three consecutive defeats. Fujairah are 13th and Khorfakkan linger at the bottom of the table.

 

Matchweek 3 in numbers

 

A total of 19 goals were scored in matchweek 3 with an average of 2.7 goals per game.

 

Bani Yas and Khorfakkan clash saw the most goals, while none were scored in Ajman and Hatta match

 

Bani Yas currently have the strongest offensive record after netting a total of 12 goals. On the other hand, Hatta and Fujairah hold the weakest defensive record, after conceding 10 times each.

 

Al Dhafra, Al Jazira and Bani Yas earned home wins, while Al Nasr and Sharjah managed to get wins away from home.

 

The goalscoring chart is now topped by Al Dhafra’s Yaseen Bakheet and Bani Yas’ Joao Pedro who each have four goals to their names. Meanwhile, Al Wasl’s Ronaldo Mendes have the most assists (3 assists)
