Arabian Gulf League preview: Matchweek 22

With five matchweeks left in the 2020-21 Arabian Gulf League calendar, it is no wonder that things are heating up at both ends of the table. Matchweek 22 is nearly upon us and there are several intriguing and enticing fixtures to look forward to in the next two days. Below, we shed light on potential thrillers and preview another exciting matchweek in the Arabian Gulf League.

Ittihad Kalba and Khorfakkan will kick off matchweek 22 action when they face off at Ittihad Kalba Stadium at 5:45 pm. Although Ittihad Kalba and Khorfakkan occupy consecutive spots on the standings, 9th and 10th respectively, a whole eight points separate between them. The Tigers will be looking to repeat the result from the first half of the season when they emerged 2-1 winners over Khorfakkan at Saqr bin Mohammad al Qassimi Stadium. Meanwhile, Khorfakkan look to earn their second straight win after beating Hatta in mideweek and reduce the gap with Ittihad Kalba.

At the same time, Hamdan bin Zayed Stadium will be hosting the Al Dhafra and Shabab Al Ahli match. Al Dhafra will be seeking to end their three-game losing streak which saw them drop to 11th place with 20 points. Meanwhile, Shabab Al Ahli look to move closer to the top four as they sit fifth, two points below fourth-placed Al Nasr.

Later on Saturday, Bani Yas will take on Hatta at 8:15 pm at Bani Yas Stadium. Both sides could do with the three points but for completely different reasons. While the Sky Blues will be looking to keep the pressure on leaders Al Jazira, Hatta will seek to snatch the three points to revive their survival hopes.

At the same time, Al Wasl will be hosting Sharjah in another exciting game at Zabeel Stadium. The home side will be aiming to extend their 11-game undefeated run, while the King are in dire need of the three points as they seek to renew their title chances after losing to Shabab Al Ahli last week.
