ADNOC Pro League preview: Matchweek 2

While seven teams will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the ADNOC Pro League season in matchweek 2, the other seven will be seeking to earn their first win after suffering defeats in the opening matchweek.

The second matchweek gets underway on Wednesday at 19:15 when Shabab Al Ahli welcome Ajman at Rashid Stadium. The home side wants to build up on their 1-0 away win over Emirates in the season opener. Meanwhile, Ajman won't be an easy target as they were off to a strong, surprising start that saw them overcome Al Nasr 3-0 at home.

Ittihad Kalba stadium will be hosting Ittihad Kalba and Al Jazira at the same time in what's expected to be an entertaining clash. The home side need to bounce back after their last-minute defeat to Sharjah last week. This will, however, be a tricky fixture for Ittihad Kalba as they clash with defending champions Al Jazira who cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Al Dhafra.

Later on Wednesday, Al Ain and Emirates will face off at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in a game that will see newly-revamped Al Ain eye their second win after kicking off their season with a 3-1 win over Khorfakkan. Meanwhile, newly-promoted Emirates will be seeking to earn a positive result after they started their campaign in the top flight on the wrong foot with a 1-0 loss to Shabab Al Ahli.

Zabeel Stadium will host Al Wasl and Khorfakkan in an exciting clash, given both sides' offensive styles. Al Wasl want to make it two wins out of two after their 1-0 win over Bani Yas, while Khorfakkan will be in search of their first win of the season after dropping points against Al Ain. Another contest is expected on the sidelines as Brazilian coach Odair Hellmann clashes with his fellow countryman Caio Zanardi.

The action resumes on Thursday when Al Nasr welcome Al Orooba at Al Maktoum Stadium at 19:15. Both teams will be seeking to grab the full points after newly-promoted Al Orooba succumbed to a heavy opening day defeat against Al Wahda and Al Nasr suffered a surprising loss to Ajman.

Meanwhile, Al Dhafra and Sharjah will be playing at Hamdan bin Zayed Stadium. Al Dhafra will be looking for a bounce-back match after their shaky start to the season which saw them succumb to a 2-0 defeat to the titleholders. On the other hand, Sharjah seek to grab their second win in a row after snatching a late victory over Ittihad Kalba last week.

The matchweek concludes with what is set to be a spectacle as Al Wahda take on Bani Yas in the big Abu Dhabi derby at Al Nahyan Stadium. The home side will work on keeping the momentum going after their solid start which saw them earn a 4-0 win over Al Orooba and move to the top of the standings, while Bani Yas will seek to bounce back from their defeat to Al Wasl.
