Unbeaten Shabab Al Ahli Stay Top as Second-Place Battle Hots up in U-21 Pro League

Unbeaten Shabab Al Ahli maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the U-21 Pro League table after the end of matchweek 18, as the net rippled on 23 occasions. 

 

 

The weekend’s U-21 action saw two home wins, four away victories, and a draw.

 

 


The opening game of matchweek 18, which took place on Saturday, saw Sharjah snatching a hard-fought 2-1 win over Al Jazira.

 

 


The result means Sharjah sit in second place with 36 points, while Al Jazira remain fifth with 29 points.

 

 


In the second match of the day, Al Ain secured a 3-1 win over Al Orooba.

 

 


The 3-1 victory took Al Ain to the third spot with 36 points to keep putting pressure on the runners-up Sharjah, who enjoy a superior goal difference, while Al Orooba remain 13th with 12 points.

 

 


Leaders Shabab Al Ahli extended their unbeaten run after settling a six-goal thriller by defeating Al Wahda 4-2 in the third and last of Saturday’s fixtures.

 

 


Shabab Al Ahli remained at the top of the table with 44 points, whereas Al Wahda sit sixth with 28 points.

 

 


The games continued on Sunday with Al Nasr pulling off a 2-1 away win over Emirates at Emirates Club Stadium.

 

 


The hosts had taken the lead nine minutes before the two teams headed to dressing rooms for the break thanks to Sultan Abdulla.

 

 

The visitors came from behind as Rashed Salem managed to restore parity in the 59th minute before Abdelaziz Sulaiman sealed the victory in the 76th minute.

 

 


The 2-1 win took Al Nasr to ninth place with 24 points, while Emirates sit 11th with 16 points.

 

 


Khorfakkan and Al Dhafra played out a goalless draw in the second fixture of the day at Saqr bin Mohammad al Qassimi Stadium.

 

 


The result kept Khorfakkan bottom with six points. while Al Dhafra come eighth with 25 points.

 

 


Sunday's action continued with Ittihad Kalba securing a 3-1 home win over Al Wasl.

 

 


The hosts had to wait for the second half to open the scoring thanks to Yaser Al Balooshi's goal in the 55th minute.

 

 

 

Five minutes later, Jefferson Douglas equalised, before Ayman Rchoq put the home side ahead once again in the 74th minute.

 

 

Ten minutes from the time, Saif Obaid added the third goal of the night to seal the victory.

 

 


Ittihad Kalba are now seventh with 27 points, while Al Wasl remained tenth with 18 points.

 

 


Matchweek 18 concluded with Ajman snatching a 2-1 win over Bani Yas at Bani Yas Stadium.

 

 


It took the hosts 36 minutes to open the scoring thanks to Abdallah Al Balooshi's goal.

 

 

The visitors refused to give up as they kept searching for the equaliser and they got what they wanted in the 77th minute when Humaid Jamal restored parity.

 

The away side left it late to seal the victory in the first minute of stoppage time thanks to Raed Mahmoud.
