Bani Yas, runners-up of the ADNOC Pro League in the 2020-21, tried to replicate their form this campaign to stay in contention at the top, but the team’s performances and results were completely different this time around.
The Sky Blues finished the competition in ninth place with 31 points out of a total of just eight wins, 11 losses and seven draws, scoring 33 goals and conceding 39 goals.
Bani Yas did not taste victory during the first three matchweeks, until they managed to secure their 2-1 maiden league victory against Al Dhafra in the fourth matchweek.
The ninth-placed team failed to win in four consecutive games, before returning to winning ways with two victories against Emirates and Al Orooba in the 9th and 10th matchweeks respectively.
Defeat in matchweek 11 was followed by a swift recovery with two consecutive wins in matchweeks 12 & 13, to end the first half of the season with 18 points from five wins, five defeats, and three draws.
The Sky Blues kicked off their second half with four consecutive defeats, but they managed to get back on track in matchweek 17 by defeating Al Dhafra 2-0.
Inconsistent performances continued as the side finished the competition in ninth place.
In terms of players' stats, Nicolás Giménez sat third in the chart of players with most assists with eight and his tally of 63 successful dribbles put him second amongst ADNOC Pro League players.
Goalkeeper Fahad Al Dhanhani topped the list of goalkeepers with the most saves, hitting 85 saves.
