Al Wasl were held to a goalless draw by Bani Yas on Saturday at Zabeel Stadium in matchweek 14 of the ADNOC Pro League.
The two teams failed to pose a real threat in a largely cagey first half.
At the beginning of the second half, Al Wasl enjoyed more possession, creating the first goal-scoring opportunity at the hour mark when Michel Araujo fired a powerful shot from outside the box, saved by Bani Yas goalkeeper Fahad Al Dhanhani.
Two minutes later, Araujo cut inside the penalty area and unleashed a right-footed shot, but Al Dhanhani denied it.
Al Dhanhani's stunning performance continued after making a brilliant save the powerful shot of Al Wasl's substitute Mohamed Abdulrahman from the outside of the box in the 78th minute.
Bani Yas Sasa Ivkovic looked to catch Al Wasl goalkeeper Ibrahim Eisa off guard late on but the latter was up for the challenge and produced the save.
Al Wasl's striker Ali Saleh missed a sitter with only Al Dhanhani to beat, the Bani Yas goalkeeper was able to produce the save to rescue a point for his side.
Al Wasl raised their points to 18, one begind for Bani Yas who sit in sixth place temporarily.
