Shabab Al Ahli snatched a 1-0 win over newly-promoted Emirates at Emirates Club Stadium in the opening matchweek of the 2021-22 ADNOC Pro League season.
The first chance of the game fell to Shabab Al Ahli in the 20th minute when Ali Saqr was called into action to deny Walid Abbas’ header.
Emirates had a goal disallowed by VAR on the half-hour mark, and Shabab Al Ahli were awarded a penalty. However, Carlos Eduardo hit the woodwork as he missed a golden chance to hand his side the lead.
Emirates keeper Ali Saqr pulled off two fine saves as he denied Yahya AlGhassani and Igor Jesus minutes before the break.
Shabab Al Ahli dominated the second half and netted what turned out to be the winning goal just after the one-hour mark, thanks to a long-range effort from Majed Hassan.
