Holders Shabab Al Ahli and Al Jazira lock horns in UAE Super Cup

All eyes will be on the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Friday, January 7th, where the showpiece UAE Super Cup bringing league champions Al Jazira and President’s Cup winners Shabab Al Ahli takes place.

The 14th edition of the Super Cup holds up a very special slogan ‘UAE, Where the world meets’ which comes to emphasise UAE's position as one of the world’s leading destinations for all events.

Accompanying the match will be events and entertainment shows organized by the UAE Pro League for the fans to enjoy and live the atmosphere of the awaited match.

Shabab Al Ahli play in the Super Cup for the third year in a row after beating Al Nasr 2-1 in the UAE President’s Cup final when Federico Cartabia converted a spot-kick in each half to win his side their 10th President’s Cup title and third piece of silverware of the season, having previously lifted the Pro League Cup and UAE Super Cup titles.

Shabab Al Ahli hold the record for UAE Super Cup appearances with eight matches.

"The game is of special importance for us, so we will do our best to clinch the Super Cup title for the sixth time in our history and for the second year in a row," said Shabab Al Ahli head coach Mahdi Ali in the pre-match press conference.

"Both teams are an open book given the long record of head-to-head encounters between them, and the most focused and calm team is the one who will win the Super Cup," concluded Ali.

Meanwhile, Al Jazira have qualified for the Super Cup match after securing the 2020-2021 league title when they were crowned in the last round of the competition, pipping Bani Yas to the title with three points.

Al Jazira also achieved the largest number of home victories in the season, totalling nine triumphs at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in addition to recording the highest-scoring rate in the first and last quarter of the match, with 15 goals and 16 goals respectively.

The Pro League will organize several accompanying events and entertainment shows for fans in Hazza bin Zayed stadium's surrounding area.

It will set up raffle draws at half time and after the final whistle with prizes including tablets, smartwatches and gaming consoles.

After the end of the match, two lucky fans will win grand prizes valued AED 100,000 (AED 50,000 for each winner).
