Goals from Abdalla Ramadan and Ali Mabkhout helped Al Jazira pull off a 2-1 important home win over the 2021-2022 League title-holders Al Ain in matchweek three of the ADNOC Pro League at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium on Thursday.
It just took 19 minutes for the drama to start unfolding when Ali Mabkhout's superb backheel teed Abdalla Ramadan who hammered a strike with his left foot into the top left corner of the net.
The visitors refused to give up as they regrouped for the equalizer, which arrived 19 minutes later when Andrii Yarmolenko floated in a brilliant cross from the right corner into the penalty area, where Laba Kodjo towered above Al Jazira's defense to fire a powerful header into the back of the net.
In the 52nd minute, Ali Mabkhout gave the lead again to the Pride of Abu Dhabi with a brilliant right-footed effort from close range into the bottom corner, sealing a 2-1 victory for Al Jazira.
Al Ain had to finish the game with ten men as defender Bandar Al Ahbabi was sent off in the 58th minute with a straight red card after he brought down Ashraf Bencharki.
The result means Al Jazira sit second with 9 points, while Al Ain are in the fifth position with just four points.
