Khorfakkan grab first point of season after 2-2 draw with Shabab Al Ahli

Khorfakkan came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw with Shabab Al Ahli at Saqr bin Mohammad al Qassimi Stadium in matchweek 5 of the Arabian Gulf League on Sunday.

Abdulla Alnaqbi went twice one-on-one with Khorfakkan keeper Mohamed Yousef in the first 15 minutes but failed to hand his side the lead, as his first effort sailed over the bar before and then he failed connect to a long pass inside the box.

Khorfakkan missed a chance to take the lead in the 19th minute when Bruno Lamas failed to control a long pass inside the box before it was saved by Shabab Al Ahli keeper Majed Nasser.

Less than one minute later, Shabab Al Ahli opened the scoring, thanks to an own goal from Ahmed Essa. A cross from the right side got deflected off the Khorfakkan defender and into the back of the net to hand the guests a 1-0 lead.

Shabab Al Ahli doubled their lead less than 10 minutes before the break when Igor Jesus headed the ball off a corner kick leaving Khorfakkan keeper helpless.

The hosts, however, were able to reduce the deficit two minutes before the break after Dodô connected to a corner kick and sent a header past the outrushing Majed Nasser.

Ten minutes after the restart, the guests came close to extending their lead when Aziz Ganiev’s freekick rattled off the woodwork.

It was Khorfakkan, however, who found the back of the net 20 minutes later when Juninho crossed the ball back to Ricardinho inside the box and the latter fired home to level the scoreline at 2-2.

The hosts almost snatched the three points when Dodô went in a one-on-one situation with Nasser, only to send the ball wide, which wrapped up the action at the Saqr bin Mohammad al Qassimi Stadium.

This marked Shabab Al Ahli’s third draw of the season as they raised their tally to nine points. On the other hand, Khorfakkan claimed their first point of the season after falling to four consecutive defeats.
