Al Wahda, Bani Yas share spoils in Abu Dhabi derby

Fares Jumaa’s own goal handed Bani Yas a 1-1 draw with Al Wahda at Al Nahyan Stadium in matchweek 2 of ADNOC Pro League.

Ahmed Abunamous thought to have broken the deadlock in the 22nd minute but his close-range effort was ruled out for an offside. Only 10 minutes later, Bani Yas were awarded a penalty that was called off after VAR check.

Bani Yas keeper Fahad Al Dhanhani was called into action to deny Lee Myung-joo strike two minutes before the break, as they headed into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Al Dhanhani made an initial save to Omar Khrbin's effort, but the ball rebounded out for Joao Pedro to finish back over the keeper in the 77th minute, marking Al Wahda’s 600th goal in their league history.

The guests tried to get back in the game and eventually found the equalizer, thanks to an own goal from Fares Jumaa who mistakenly put the goal into his own net off a corner kick.

Al Wahda now have 4 points, while Bani Yas collected their first point of the campaign after losing their season opener to Al Wasl.
