Joao Pedro steps up to deny Khorfakkan a comfortable first-leg advantage

Khorfakkan had almost set foot in UAE Pro League cup quarter-finals having netted three goals against Al Wahda in the first leg of UAE Pro League cup first round at Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi stadium, before goal machine Joao Pedro put his team back in the game with a brace to maintain his side's chances at proceeding to the next round.

The hosts took the lead in the 35th minute through Khalifa Mubarak who fired a header into the left corner of the visitors' net.

Things got more complicated for Al Wahda when Fares Jumaa got sent off two minutes into the added time of the first half, just a minute before Osama Rashid doubled Khorfakkan's lead.

Nine minutes into the second period, the hosts stunned Al Wahda with a third goal from Falah Waleed, whose powerful deflected shot deceived Al Wahda's goalkeeper and found the back of the net making it seem like Khorfakkan had almost secured a berth in the competition's quarter-finals.

However, it was Al Wahda's prolific attacker Joao Pedro who saved his side's blushes with a brace he netted in the 62nd and 68th minutes showing what a world-class striker he is, to guarantee the fans some thrill and entertainment in the fixture's return leg scheduled for October 26.
