Matar nets winner as Al Wahda edge out Khorfakkan 2-1

Al Wahda return to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Khorfakkan at Saqr bin Mohammad al Qassimi Stadium in matchweek 4 of the Arabian Gulf League dubbed as “Flag Day Round”.

Khorfakkan’s forward Ramon Lopes forced Rashed Ali into a save as the Al Wahda keeper denied the guests from opening the scoring nine minutes into the game.

Khorfakkan did find the back of the net 25 minutes later when Ricardinho controlled the ball in a brilliant manner inside the box before sending a left-footed strike past Ali. Khorfakkan ended their goal drought as this marked their first goal in the league this season.

Al Wahda, however, refused to go into halftime 1-0 down. Tim Matavz controlled the ball first time, turned and fired a powerful effort into Khorfakkan’s net to level the scoreline in injury time.

Khorfakkan keeper Mohamed Yousef pulled off a good save just after the one-hour mark, denying Khalil Ibrahim from scoring a header that would hand Al Wahda the lead.

The Clarets eventually took the lead, but it was through an effort from Ismail Matar. The veteran forward connected to Ibrahim’s cross inside the box and tapped home, leaving Khorfakkan keeper helpless.

Al Wahda move to fifth place on seven points, while Khorfakkan linger at the bottom of the table with no points after succumbing to their fourth defeat in a row.
