Matchweek 10 roundup: Sharjah suffer first defeat of season, Al Jazira earn fifth win in a row

Bani Yas handed Sharjah their first defeat of the season, while Ajman and Hatta remained winless in matchweek 10 of the Arabian Gulf League.

 

The Sky Blues emerged 1-0 winners against the King, thanks to Ahmed Abunamous late winner at Bani Yas Stadium. This put an end to Sharjah’s nine-game unbeaten streak, yet they remained on top, tied with Al Jazira on 23 points.

 

The Pride of Abu Dhabi grabbed their fifth win in a row with a 3-2 victory over Al Wasl at Zabeel Stadium. They are now three points above third-placed Al Nasr and four above Bani Yas in fourth place.

 

The Blues dropped to third spot after falling to a 2-1 defeat to 10-man Al Ain at Al Maktoum Stadium, as the Boss returned to winning ways to move to fifth place on 18 points.

 

Ittihad Kalba played out a 0-0 draw with Al Wahda at home, as the Tigers dropped to sixth place on 17 points, two above the Clarets in eighth place, who are tied with seventh-placed Al Dhafra on 15 points. Al Dhafra earned their fourth win of the season, thanks to Denilson Pereira winner against Hatta.

 

Shabab Al Ahli struggles continued as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Fujairah away from home to drop to ninth place on 14 points, while Fujairah earned their second win of the season to sit 12th on seven points.

 

Khorfakkan also grabbed their second win by defeating Ajman 2-1, as they now sit 11th on eight points, four below Al Wasl in 10th place. Meanwhile, the Oranges occupy the 13th place on three points, while Hatta remain at bottom with one point only.

 

Matchweek 10 in Numbers

 

A total of 18 goals were scored in matchweek 10, two more than the previous matchweek, with an average of a 2.57 goals per game. Shabab Al Ahli’s Igor Jesus consolidated his position at the top of the goalscoring standings, as he raised his tally to 10 goals, two above each of Sharjah’s Welliton Soares and Igor Coronado and Bani Yas’ Joao Pedro.

 

Hatta and Ajman are the only two teams who are yet to grab a win this season. Hatta also holds the worst defensive record in the league after conceding 27 goals in 10 games. Hatta’s offensive performance is no better, as they netted four goals only. On the other hand, Al Jazira have the best offensive performance so far after scoring 23 goals.

 

Three teams got away from home wins, namely Al Jazira, Al Ain and Khorfakkan, while Al Dhafra, Bani Yas and Fujairah won at home.
