It represents an opportunity to pay tribute to the martyrs and express the true interconnectedness between the homeland, the leadership and the people.
The Commemoration Day coincides with the martyrdom of Salem Suhail bin Khamis, the first Emirati soldier to die in the line of duty. He was responsible for maintaining order and security on the island of Greater Tunb and proved courageous when he refused to lower his national flag when confronted by Iranian forces to lose his life on November 30th, 1971.
